6th October 2010

Went to the Severn Valley Bridgenorth on Wednesday to collect the new valve spindle sleeves as the originals are completely worn out (out of round, undersize etc). Then delivered these to Cheddleton Shed afterwards, and collected all of the valve bushes together that the sleeves go through. One of them didn’t want to be found, but thanks to Chris Simcock it turned up hiding behind the cab doors (little rascal!).

These are now with Noel at Premier Engineering, and will be bored out to the correct size to match the new sleeves. Luckily there is plenty of metal on them so saves us quite a few pounds.

All being well, 5199 will have rebored valve liners along with new valves, new bushes, new sleeves and new packing so all should be tiptop in the valve department. Hopefully 5199 should sound rather good once the valves have been set.

The brake piston rod has now been drilled out and is ready to fit. The vacuum pump has been measured up for new rings and they should be arriving within the next week.

Boiler Update

Had a look on Wednesday, on the fireman’s side all stays are now in and more foundation rivets fitted. Hydraulic test tomorrow (Friday) so I have been told.  Lets hope all goes well.

Regards
Will
