31st October 2010

A Busy three days has seen myself on all three days joined at various times by Jon Kerr and Hank Fredericks, along with CVR guys John Locket, Tony Wolliscroft, Ben Wolliscroft (aged 8 , Kev Homer, Chris Meadowcroft .plus Graham and Neil.

  • We have put most of the cladding on.
  • Finished off the Blast pipe which is now ready to go on
  • Made all the studs to hold on the Ashpan and tapped out the Foundation ring on the boiler
  • Needle gunned the ashpan ready for painting
  • And finally put a rubber bump stop in the Vacuum brake cylinder that we forgot to put in first time round..... doooooh!!!

We now consider ourselves experts on GWR Vacuum brake cylinder rebuilds though following all the experience we gained. (Quotes available on request!)

Last but not least young Ben painted the Vacuum Brake Reservoir, and assisted Jon in making lots of noise bashing rust and scale off the ashpan with hammers and a needle gun. Ben then also made the handrail mounting bush fit better too! Impressive stuff from someone so young.

So tomorrow sees me back there hopefully with an update on a boiler lift. After that who knows.

The Severn Valley have a new set of Vacuum pump rings for us to collect, and Bob Meanley has finished the Lubricator both of which need to be collected.
