5199 Lives again!

I am pleased to say that despite the disappointment of 5199 not running on Saturday (which was probably a blessing in disguise with the CVR’s water crisis) she finally entered back in to traffic on Sunday afternoon, which no doubt brought a smile to many peoples faces.

Late Friday night we took the heart breaking decision to admit defeat, and say 5199 would not be able to participate in Saturday’s activities. However, a small number of us went into Cheddleton shed Saturday morning with her and set about trying to complete as much as we could.

And so just before 1pm she left shed with Chairman Richard Pumphrey on board and CVR Driver Bernie Littler at the controls, to hook up to the 3-car DMU and take the 13:00 departure from Cheddleton down to Froghall. She returned later on with a Black 5 in tow (I’m sure it was just to add some extra weight!) before doing an entire return trip by herself later on.

I managed to get a few pics myself before departing on the 8F for what ended up being a late evening turn.

There are still a few little bits and pieces to finish though despite the success of having her working trains again.

All in all though, most would agree it just shows what can be achieved by a mainly volunteer workforce. This should be something that the CVR and those concerned should be proud of and treasure for many years to come.

Regards
