28th March 2011

Just a small update.

Jon Kerr and I went down to the CVR on the 19th of March, and with Chris Meadowcroft spent a bit of time cleaning her up.

Jon Lockett, who was on next day, came down to oil her up in the afternoon.

It was a shame we didn't see her on the Sunday, as she must of looked dam good with her Copper and brass shining in the sun.

The Vacuum system is reported to be well up to mark going off reports from CVR crews and CVR CME Gregg Wilson.

One of the last weak links in the 5199 system was the retaining valve, which I understand Bob Meanley of Tyseley has now fettled along with some adjustment to the pepperpot valves.

Another job being talked of now is the overhaul and resetting of the cylinder relief valves. These have always appeared to be blowing off light, and I hear they may need some machining.

All this needs to be back together by Tuesday though, as 5199 is scheduled to work both CVR's Share Issue Launch trains on Wednesday up Cauldon Lowe and a special excursion train up Cauldon Lowe on Saturday 2nd April. This second train is part of a Mainline railtour originating from London, and last we heard it was 9 coaches along the full length of the CVR, with assistance from a 37. I am fortunate enough to be cleaner on Saturday, so hopefully I will be able to report back to everyone.

All the best
Will Naylor
