She's Passed

Well the good news we all wanted to hear has finally come. 5199 has been declared fit for purpose by the Boiler inspector!

Well done to all concerned, and the list of "all" continues to grow as more and more loco fitters come to light. CVR volunteer Dave Draycott is the latest person to help, proving to be very keen to get on with the Job.

There are still many little jobs for us attend to though before the work on 5199 is complete.

Dave and I managed to get the Valve spindle crossheads fitted and the last of the cladding before the dark shut the light out, while Jon Kerr got some oil into the new valve sleeves. We still have a few issues with leaking balance pipe gaskets, but not big enough to stop her running. If they persist we may have to remove them and reseal them sometime in the future.

The biggest outstanding job is getting the brakes finished off, which I will be tackling tomorrow, and a cab floor might be a good idea too!!!

Meanwhile, after the days’ work we also took a trip out at night behind 34028 Eddystone with nine coaches (assisted at times by a 33 diesel) reaching the end of the line at Cauldon Lowe Exchange Sidings.

Looking forward to 5199 doing the same. Only 2 days to go until the gala!

Regards
Will Naylor
